SIU investigating death of 62-year-old man at north side apartment

The Special Investigation Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 62-year-old man after police were called to a north side apartment.

THUNDER BAY - The Special Investigation Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 62-year-old man that occurred on the city’s north side early Sunday morning.

According to a release issued by the SIU, the incident under investigation took place on Sunday, Apr. 1 at an apartment building on South Water Street and Cumberland Street South.

Thunder Bay Police were called to the building at approximately 7:35 a.m. following reports of a dispute in the building.

A man was later found on the ground below the third floor apartment unit. He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Thunder Bay Police did not provide any details on the incident at this time, saying only an investigation is being conducted.

The scene is still being held by Thunder Bay Police. Two investigators and two forensic investigators from the SIU are assigned to the incident. The SIU is asking anyone with information about the investigation to contact 1-800-787-8529.

The SIU is called into investigate any incident involving police that resulted in death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
