SIU investigating Whitefish Bay fatality

One person is dead following a shooting at Whitefish Bay in Lac Seul First Nation.

The province’s Special Investigation Unit is now looking into the incident. SIU officials say Sioux Lookout OPP along with the Lac Seul Police service responded to an incident early Sunday morning.

The OPP emergency response team and incident command unit also responded and arrive on scene after reports that a suspect had been firing shots within the community.

The SIU says that while police were on scene, there was an "interaction" with the 39-year-old man. The suspect was later brought to the Meno-Ya-Win Health Centre by ambulance, but later died of his injuries.

The suspect’s name has not yet been released and the SIU continues to investigate.
