THUNDER BAY - No charges will be laid by the Special Investigations Unit following an incident between a 41-year old man and Thunder Bay Police.
On Dec. 4, 2017, police officers arrested a 41-year-old man for public intoxication. Due to a previous brain injury and his state of intoxication, he was transported to hospital.
While waiting to be seen in the off-load delay area - a room situated between the emergency unit and the ambulance bay - the man stood up from his wheelchair, fell forward and struck his head.
Tony Loparco, director of the SIU, determined there are no reasonable grounds to lay criminal charges against police following this incident.
