THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay District Health Unit reports six new COVID-19 cases, all involving residents of the City of Thunder Bay or surrounding townships.

Four of the new cases reported Tuesday are the result of close contact, while the other two are still being investigated.

Eight previously diagnosed cases were resolved in the preceding 24 hours, resulting in the active case count falling from 93 to 91.

One district resident remains in hospital receiving treatment for COVID-19.

In the jurisdiction of the Northwestern Health Unit, based in Kenora, there are currently 17 active cases of COVID-19.

Ontario reported 687 new cases on Tuesday, compared with 788 on Monday.

Updated vaccination data released

TBDHU also published updated vaccination statistics on Tuesday.

Ministry of Health data shows that about 91 per cent of the district population 12 and over is now fully immunized, and almost 95 per cent has received at least one dose of vaccine.

The ministry statistics are based on a Ministry of Finance population dataset.

However, TBDHU's own statistics – which are based on the province's Registered Persons Database (using OHIP data) – show that only about 83 per cent of all residents 12 and over are fully vaccinated, and approximately 88 per cent have at least one vaccine dose.

To date, 127,000 district residents have received a minimum of one dose.

As of Nov. 27, about 7,800 people have received three doses of vaccine.
