Six new COVID cases in the Thunder Bay area

The active caseload climbs for the first time since Dec. 28.

THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is reporting six new COVID-19 cases in the City of Thunder Bay or immediate surrounding area.

One of the cases is connected to the outbreak at Southbridge Roseview long-term care home, where the number of active cases has now fallen to 14, including 10 residents and four staff.

The number of fatalities at Southbridge remains unchanged at 19.

Of the six new cases in the city and area, four involve close contact, while the source of one infection is still under investigation. 

The total number of reported active cases in the city and district stands at 63, six more than on Sunday.

This is the first growth in the number of active cases since Dec. 28.

One person is receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

On Sunday, the first diagnosed case of COVID-19 was disclosed in the Terrace Bay area.

The North of Superior Health Group and North shore Family Health Team said the patient is self-isolating at home, and is currently experiencing mild symptoms.
