WATERLOO, Ont. -- Down 15 points after the opening quarter, it certainly appeared the Lakehead Thunderwolves men's basketball team was heading for a fifth straight defeat.
But the Thunderwolves cut the gap to four by half-time, took the lead at the end of the third and went on to down the host Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks 89-80 to snap their four-game slide and improve to 2-4 in OUA play.
Six different players, led by Michael Okafor's 15, hit double digits for Lakehead, who got 46 of the team's 89 points off the bench.
Starter Eric Gonzalez had 12, a total matched by reserve Jared Kreiner, who buried four three-pointers on the night. Chris Sagl (13), Jamani Barrett (11) and Nathan Bilamu (10) also cracked double figures.
Benhur Gebrekidan led Laurer with a game-high 18.
The Thunderwolves committed just six turnovers in the win.
Lakehead returns home next weekend for a pair against the Western Mustangs, the team's final games before the Christmas break.
Laurier slipped to 1-3 with the loss.
