Sleeping driver leads to impaired by drug charge

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were dispatched to a parking lot in the 200 block of Syndicate Avenue South following reports of an unconscious woman in a parked car just after 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 26.

When officers arrived they found an unconscious woman in the driver’s seat of a silver sedan. The engine of the vehicle was running.

Officers checking on the woman’s welfare were able to wake her up and speak to her. While checking on her welfare police noticed signs that the woman was impaired by drug.

The accused was placed under arrest and transported to the Thunder Bay Police Service headquarters for further screening.

At the station a qualified drug recognition expert was able to determine the accused was impaired by drug. Police also learned the woman was a suspended driver.

A 34-year-old Thunder Bay woman has been charged with Operation While Impaired by Drugs.
