THUNDER BAY – Sleeping Giant Brewing Company, announced a grand total of $12,246 to be donated to 25 local charities and non-profit organizations, through the fourth installment of the Craft Cares fundraising initiative.
“Really exciting, it’s our fourth year in a row reintroducing Craft Cares which is a campaign that supports not only our local restaurants and licensees, but local charities as well,” said Andrea Mulligan, co-founder and CEO.
“Fifty cents from every beer that’s sold from local licensees goes directly to a charity of their choice, so we’re thrilled to have approximately 25 charities selected today by 45 licensees.”
For every Sleeping Giant Brewing Company product that was sold at participating locations between Jan. 1 and Feb. 28, fifty cents was donated to a charity or organization of their choice.
The 2022 Craft Cares top three fundraisers were Loch Lomond, which raised $1,134 for PRO Kids, followed by Nomad Bay St & YQT Airport, which raised $852 for Roots to Harvest, and Mount Baldy, which raised $672 for Roots to Harvest.
“We’re absolutely thrilled that the Sleeping Giant Brewing Company does this event to support the community. The community supports them, they support the community and that’s pretty much the whole philosophy around PRO Kids as well,” said Laura Daniele, coordinator, PRO Kids.
This year Sleeping Giant Brewing Company also introduced the loveable, rainbow-bellied, Craft Bear that Cares, an official mascot of the campaign that appears on merchandise, and released a limited-edition brew to benefit the movement.
Both new additions supported the campaign to ensure each donation was topped up to $200. The initiative was also extended until the end of February for the first time in its four-year run, as participating locations were able to re-open their doors after being closed due to provincial restrictions.
To date, Craft Cares has donated $48,716 to over 100 charities and organizations. To celebrate the success of the movement, a banner was raised in the brewery that will highlight the community contributions year-round.
