THUNDER BAY -- As Ontario moves into stage two of reopening, restaurants and bars are being given the green light to reopen all across the province, and Sleeping Giant Brewing Company wanted to help in the local process.

The Thunder Bay brewery is donating hundreds of facemasks and sanitizer to its restaurant and bar partners in Thunder Bay and across Northwestern Ontario.

“We realize local establishments haven’t been operating for a while and recognize the challenges they must be facing. So we asked ourselves, ‘What do we do for our friends when they are having a tough time?’"

"Our team started brainstorming on how we could provide assistance and loved the idea of donating masks and sanitizer to support employees at our local bars and restaurants. We hope it helps ease the startup stress by providing the tools they need,” says Sleeping Giant Brewing Company, General Manager, Kevin Brewer.

“We are so grateful to have friends like Sleeping Giant Brewing Company. They have such a strong community focus, and are always willing to help us out in a pinch. The donation of masks and hand sanitizer for our staff takes a huge weight off our shoulders during this uncertain time. A big shout out to the SGBC team for keeping us all safe and making amazing local beer,” says The Foundry Manager, Maelyn Hurley.

The non-medical facemasks are from local supplier Ungalli Clothing, while Sleeping Giant Brewing Company is behind the sanitizer. The brewery started producing disinfectant in response to the shortage of the product in the city. To date, it has produced 14,000 litres of hand sanitizer since April.

“This is a situation that we haven’t really seen in our lifetime so we want to do everything we can to help the community through this pandemic. It’s a time to pull together. We owe much of our success to these establishments that have supported our local brand throughout the years. Together we can support one another to pivot to the new normal and to new practices aimed at keeping the community safe,” says Sleeping Giant Brewing Company Co-founder & CEO, Andrea Mulligan.

“Continued community support for the brewery has helped us stay focused on what matters the most, which is taking care of our local team, the craft beer consumer, and the community as we navigate a different craft beer landscape. We’re grateful when we can make someone’s day a bit better because of our company and products, especially during the COVID-19 crisis.”
