Slick highways lead to morning crashes: OPP

(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Monday, November 23, 2015 at approximately 5:44 am, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as well as Shuniah Fire and Rescue responded to a single motor vehicle collision just west of MacGregor Road on Highway 11/17.

The driver of a Chevrolet Heritage High Roof (HHR) was west bound on Highway 11/17 when the driver lost control of the vehicle, struck a rock cut and landed back onto Highway 11/17.

The vehicle sustained extensive damage. The driver was trapped within the vehicle and had to be extricated from the vehicle. The driver was transported to hospital with non life threatening injuries. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

At approximately 7:05 am, officers responded to a single vehicle rollover collision on Highway 11/17 west of Balsam Street. The driver of a Ford Escape was east bound when the driver lost control of the vehicle and rolled onto the drivers’ side of the vehicle in the east bound ditch.

The vehicle sustained extensive damage. The driver was not injured. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

At approximately 7:23 officers responded to a single vehicle collision on highway 11/17 between the Harbour Expressway and Oliver road.

The driver of a Mitsubishi Lancer was west bound on Highway 11/17 when the driver lost control of the vehicle, slid across the highway, coming to rest in the east bound ditch. The driver was not injured. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
