Small business survey shows hiring trends not likely to change

The results have been released for this year's Thunder Bay Small Business Opinion Survey.

The study, presented by the Thunder Bay Ventures, examines the attitudes and behaviours of small businesses' in the community from year to year, while giving an economic outlook for the city.

Small business owners were on hand to hear the results of the survey. Hiring expectations for the next 12 months were almost identical to last year's results with 39-percent of firms planning to hire additional employees. However, the number of respondents who believe the economy will have a negative impact on small businesses' this year has dropped 21 per cent from 2009.

Manager of Thunder Bay Ventures, Royden Potvin says most business owners were pleased with the results and feel confident about moving forward.

Wynn adds that he also feels confident toward future security with his business. He isn't alone. This year the number of small business owners who say they are confident with future security has increase by two per cent from 2009.
