The Northwest Region’s OPP detachment was reporting a quiet holiday weekend as of Sunday evening.
There have been several crashes around the province, including some fatal collisions in Toronto and Sudbury, but there’s only been one highway incident reported so far for this region.
OPP officials say the single-vehicle crash took place around 7 p.m. Saturday on Highway 11 just west of Shabaqua. An SUV skidded off the road and ran into a ditch.
Police, ambulance and volunteer fire crews from Shebandowan rushed to the scene. The driver and a young girl who was a passenger in the vehicle were both taken to hospital.
OPP Const. Doug Golding said the injuries appeared to be non-life threatening.
The highway was reduced to a single lane while the scene was cleared. The investigation continues.
