Small splash

The blame for low attendance at Prince Arthur's Landing's splash pad this summer rests solely on the weather. In its second season, the splash pad has had half the number of people use the facility as last summer.

The blame for low attendance at Prince Arthur's Landing's splash pad this summer rests solely on the weather.

In its second season, the splash pad has had half the number of people use the facility as last summer.

"Last year we had over 30,000," said Kathy Ball, operations manager for Marina Park. "This year we're at almost 12,000."

Ball said that drop is because of the amount of rain and chilly weather the city has received this summer.

"Last year the weather was gorgeous all summer long and we were busy right through to the middle of September."

But while the splash pad isn't seeing as many people flock to it, other parts of the park like the skateboard plaza are still bustling.

"People just walking down and using the park is incredible this year," said Ball. "It's great to see people down here being active."

"They're putting their jackets on; they have their umbrellas and they're walking," she added

The splash pad will be open for another month and Ball still has hopes the weather will turn around.
