An OPP officer with a nose for cannabis has landed a 38-year-old man in plenty of legal hot water.

During a routine RIDE program stop on Thursday on Onion Lake Road and North Branch Road in Gorham Township, officers pulled over a driver behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Malibu. After speaking with the driver, the smell of marijuana was detected.

A further search of the vehicle netted more than $4,700 in cash.

The man, who police did not name, was arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. He will appear in court on June 24 to answer the charge.
During the RIDE check OPP officers also handed out two seatbelt offence infractions and charged another driver for driving under suspension under the Highway Traffic Act.
