Snow grooming operator dies after machine breaks through ice

POPLAR HILL, Ont. -- A 52-year-old Kenora man is dead following an incident involving a snow groomer over the weekend.

POPLAR HILL, Ont. -- A 52-year-old Kenora man is dead following an incident involving a snow groomer over the weekend.

The mishap occurred Saturday near the Poplar Hill First Nation as the machine went through the ice while trying to prepare a winter road.

The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery unit had to be called in to locate the operator.

A post-mortem has determined the man died as the result of drowning.
