Snowmobile theft leads to arrest of 23-year-old in Sioux Lookout

Police in Sioux Lookout have arrested a man and charged him with stealing a snowmobile. Area OPP said Saturday in a release they conducted a traffic stop after witnessing a snowmobile traveling at a high rate of speed near 7th Avenue.

Area OPP said Saturday in a release they conducted a traffic stop after witnessing a snowmobile traveling at a high rate of speed near 7th Avenue. 

It was at that point they determined the machine had allegedly been stolen from a residence in the Northern Ontario community. 

A 23-year-old suspect faces several charges, including break and enter, theft of a motor vehicle, breach of probation, possession of stolen property obtained by crime and two counts of mishief under $5,000. 

He also faces a pair of charges under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act: failing to wear helmet and operating a motor vehicle while suspended. 

The suspect was held for bail and remains in custody. He's sheduled to appear in court on Jan. 5.
