At mid-afternoon, about 12 flights were delayed

THUNDER BAY —  Airport management is advising travellers booked on flights out of Thunder Bay Airport to keep a close watch on flight times while the current winter storm warning remains in effect.

Environment Canada's forecast showed the potential for heavy snow to fall at times through most of the day Thursday.

At mid-afternoon, half a dozen departing flights were listed as either delayed or late. Six incoming flights were also affected.

Airport CEO Ed Schmidtke had cautioned "It's hard to predict what's going to come for the rest of the day during storms like this."

Schmidtke said he was encouraging travellers to stay in touch either with the airport's own website showing updated arrival and departure times, or with their airline's website, "just to make sure that they have the most recent information."

Environment Canada has predicted snowfall accumulations ranging from 20 cm to 35 centimetres through Friday morning.
