THUNDER BAY — Ontario Solicitor General Michael Kerzner is in Thunder Bay this week but not currently available to speak with reporters.
At a virtual press conference Monday to address police staffing shortages across the province, Kerzner revealed he would be travelling to the city.
Responding to a reporter's question, he said the government has done more to expand infrastructure in the correctional system than any previous Ontario government, adding that under the Liberals seven jails were closed.
"Tomorrow I'm going to be in Thunder Bay to see the progress to open up – next year, on time – our new 345-bed correctional facility," he said.
Dougall Media requested an opportunity to interview Kerzner while he's at the new jail complex, but a spokesperson said the minister would not be available.
The minister last visited the construction site on Highway 61 in the fall of 2024.
Kerzner's itinerary in the city this week also apparently includes a visit to the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service headquarters, as he told reporters "I'm going to be at NAPS this Wednesday and Thursday."
