Speed limits, safety hit tonight’s council agenda

Thunder Bay city council will be getting back to business Monday night with a number of items on the agenda, including a possible change to the speed limit on a part of Junot Avenue.

Thunder Bay city council will be getting back to business Monday night with a number of items on the agenda, including a possible change to the speed limit on a part of Junot Avenue.

The proposal would see the limit reduced to 40 km/h near the Boys and Girls Club.  Pedestrian signals would also be established at Windsor Street, in 2015.

The change is part of Phase 3 of the Golf Links reconstruction project.

Meanwhile, coun. Trevor Giertuga is hoping to see a safety survey completed for the intersection of Valley Street, Jameson Street and Sherwood Drive.

He's asking city staff to help identify safety issues that will not only outline possible options, but provide costs to improve traffic and safety issues.

In other business, a recommendation regarding the supply and installation of a new transit information system will be on the agenda Monday.  It's part of a contract awarded to Nova Bus at a cost of $627,000.
