A Canadian conservative think tank has released its rankings of Ontario's high schools, and Thunder Bay has at least one school scoring high.
The Fraser Institute ranked St. Ignatius as the top local school, scoring a 7.5 on the organization’s 10-point scale. St. Patrick, Hammarskjold and Westgate high school were all tied at 6.4 points.
Lakehead Public Schools board superintendent Sherri-Lynne Pharand said the Fraser Institutes report isn't the only way to gauge their schools, but added that she's pleased with how all four of their public high-schools are doing.
“I think it’s the variety of measures, and its measures over time that are the best indicators of the successes as well as that conversation that teachers, students and their parents have about their success,” Pharand said.
Sir Winston Churchill scored a 5.6, while the new Superior Collegiate scored slightly lower with a 5.3.
