(THUNDER BAY, ON)- On Saturday, September 17, 2016, at approximately 12:03 am, an officer from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped the driver of a Chrysler 200 for a traffic violation on Highway 61.
The officer spoke to the driver and determined the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver was transported to the detachment for further tests.
A 39-year-old St. John’s, NL, man was arrested and charged with:
-Operate a Motor Vehicle With Over 80 mgs of Alcohol contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.
He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on October 28, 2016, to answer to the charge.
Also, on September 17, at approximately 1:10 am, OPP received a report of an erratic driver on Highway 11/17 near Oliver Road. An officer located the described vehicle, a GMC truck, on Highway 11/17 and Balsam Street.
The officer spoke to the driver and determined the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver was transported to the detachment for further tests.
A 56-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
-Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code,
-Operate a Motor Vehicle With Over 80 mgs of Alcohol contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.
He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on December 13, 2016, to answer to the charges.
The OPP are reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver that is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
