St. Lawrence II makes pit stop in Thunder Bay

St. Lawrence II will leave the port around 4 p.m.

THUNDER BAY -- One of the classic vessels that was part of the Tall Ships Festival in Two Harbors, Minnesota last weekend has made a short pit stop in Thunder Bay.

The St. Lawrence II is a 25-metre long Tall Ship that was built in 1953, and it was docked on Pier 3 at Marina Park.

Captain Alex McCraw says they plan to leave the port at around 4 p.m. Wednesday to continue their journey back to the southern Great Lakes.

McCraw says they've seen a fair number of curious onlookers come to the pier to check it out.

The St. Lawrence II's next event is in Erie, Pennsylvania on Aug. 25.  McCraw says because of the two-week span between events, he and his crew decided to try a different route back south, along the North Shore of Lake Superior.

The Tall Ships Festival featured eight vessels, and attracted around 6,000 visitors per day to Two Harbors from Aug. 4 to 7.
