The stars have led people from across Canada to Thunder Bay this weekend.

More than 100 members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada gathered for their general assembly at Lakehead University. Local organizer Dave Gallant said the meeting features lectures, banquets and tours of the city.

“It’s just a good chance to meet again all the people from across Canada,” he said. “Just a mutual interest in sharing what we know.”

Speakers include MIT astrophysicist and planetary scientist Sara Seager who studies the possibility of other habitable worlds through exoplanets, planets that orbit other stars.

“She’s at the forefront of that research,” Gallant said.

The University of Toronto’s Ray Carlberg focused on Canada’s contribution to a new telescope in Hawaii while author and night sky photographer Dennis Mammana held workshops throughout the weekend.
