Statistics Canada has made a prediction of what the city’s demographics may look like in two decades.
The study predicts that 15 per cent of the city’s residents will be identified as Aboriginal by the year 2031.
Economist Livio Di Matteo said the data is based on a few factors.
“They’ve constructed a number of scenarios based on migration, fertility assumptions, etcetera,” Di Matteo said during an interview with CKPR Radio.
“Based on these scenarios and the 2006 census, (Statistics Canada) sees the Aboriginal population increasing fairly substantially.
Statistics Canada also predicts that the country’s Aboriginal population will be five per cent by 2031.
