(KENORA, ON) As Halloween approaches, the streets will soon be filled with hundreds of young ghosts and goblins.

Parents and children are reminded of some simple safety tips for trick or treaters:

  • Be visible-wear bright colours, reflective tape, a flashlight or glow stick.

  • If there is not a sidewalk present, walk facing traffic.

  • Be respectful of people’s property.

  • Don’t trick or treat alone, walk in a group or with a trusted adult.

  • Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering.  Do not eat candy until you get home.

  • Stay in well lit, familiar areas and neighbourhoods.

  • Avoid costumes with baggy sleeves and long hems to minimize the risk of contact with candles, getting caught on objects and falls.

  • Wear make-up instead of a mask. But if you do wear a mask, make sure you can see, hear and breathe well in your mask

  • Stay on one side of the road and then the other. Do not cross back and forth over the roadway

  • NEVER enter a stranger’s home- stay outside on the porch or steps

                                        Have fun and stay safe!
