The former Steep Rock Mine site in Atikokan will no longer house a processing plant for the Bending Lake Iron Ore Group.
Instead, the proposed facility will be set up closer to Ignace.
Despite this news, Atikokan Mayor Dennis Brown said the change will be inconvenience but he isn't concerned about losing jobs.
“It’s not quite as good for the people of Atikokan, but the people of Atikokan will still be able to work there. It’s about 70 kilometres away. The people of Ignace will be able to work there, as will the people of Dryden. So it’s good news for all of Northwestern Ontario."
He added that the construction phase alone is expected to create 700 jobs for the area.
The Company's president said the move will save the company from constructing additional pipelines and railways.
