Both area MPPs are sticking by the province’s health minister in the wake of the Ornge scandal.

Members of the opposition have been calling for health minister Deb Matthews’ resignation after it was learned the ministry received a draft report of the auditor general’s findings of spending irregularities, released this week, in September.

The calls were so loud at Queen’s Park Thursday that the legislature was temporarily suspended.

But MPP Bill Mauro (Lib., Thunder Bay-Atikokan) said Matthews has done very well dealing with the serious situation. She was the one who asked for a forensic audit and has since called in the OPP to investigate Mauro said.

“I think we’re all looking forward to the OPP investigation and seeing what it yields,” he said.

Michael Gravelle (Lib., Thunder Bay-Superior North) said Matthews took decisive action and is handling the situation extremely well.

“I have great confidence in Deb Matthews there’s no one who’s more dedicated.”
