A suspect fleeing from police in an alleged stolen car has landed a 15-year-old in jail facing several charges.
Thunder Bay Police Services spokeswoman Julie Tilbury said the incident began Saturday morning around 9 a.m. in the city’s south side.
“A homeowner reported a vehicle had been stolen from a North Marks Street address. Later on that evening we had a call of an erratic driver with the same vehicle in the south side of the city,” Tilbury said.
“At approximately 11 o’clock our officers did observe the same vehicle and attempted to stop the vehicle that was proceeding down Rosslyn Road. The driver of the vehicle, at quite a high rate of speed went right past the vehicle which was blocking off an intersection.”
A short pursuit took place, but officers called it off in the interest of public safety. The driver of the vehicle was located a short time later on foot on Arthur Street.
“The vehicle was located on Confederation Drive. A homeowner had called in and said it was parked out front and as a result the officers were then able to locate this male walking in the area and subsequently arrested him for this offence.”
The youth, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, faces four charges: possession of stolen property under $5,000, dangerous driving, two counts of breach of probation and flight from police.
He remains in custody as was expected in court on Monday.
