MISHKEEGOGAMANG OJIBWAY NATION, Ont. -- A storm system that caused Environment Canada to issue weather advisories across much of Northwestern Ontario resulted in funnel clouds forming over at least one First Nations community.

Severe weather hit the Mishkeegogamang Objibway Nation on Monday afternoon, with reports of funnel clouds forming over the community's main reserve and strong winds causing damage. The community is located about 20 kilometres south of Pickle Lake

A statement posted on the community's Facebook said strong wind gusts pushed trees, poles, antennas and structures to the ground, but everybody was able to get safely indoors. A video on social media appears to show a piece of roofing being blown off one building.

Environment Canada had issued a tornado watch for nearby Pickle Lake, with similar advisories in place across much of the region.

The storm system hit Thunder Bay later in the day, with reports of trees being blown over and a couple of camping trailers overturned at the Silver Falls campground. Synergy North reported a number of power outages in multiple neighbourhoods across the city in the evening.
