The odds were about 500-to-1, but a lucky Westgate Collegiate student was the big winner of a free year of tuition at Lakehead University.
LU held its Fall Preview Day Tuesday. The post-secondary school opened its doors to hundreds of prospective students.
High school students from the city, region and across the province attended the annual recruitment-based event.
The day allows students and their families to sit in on lectures, learn about scholarships and programs and tour the campus.
But the big draw was the first year of tuition giveaway. This year's winner was Westgate High School Grade 12 student, Julia Tuomi.
More than 500 people participated in the day of exploration on the LU campus.
