The Thunder Bay Catholic District School board is investigating an incident where about a dozen children were misplaced for more than an hour on the first day of school.
More than a dozen parents arrived at St. Martin School Wednesday afternoon after their children didn't get off the school bus as scheduled, according to a mother who wishes to remain anonymous.
When her two children didn't get off the bus and the bus driver couldn't tell her where they were, she phoned the school.
She said that officials at the school didn't know where the children were either.
After waiting a half hour at the bus stop, she drove to the school where other parents had shown up also looking for their children.
The parents were eventually told their children got on the wrong buses and the school was looking for them.
The woman then got a phone call from her eldest child saying they were dropped off at home.
"A six-year-old and a 10-year-old. Alone. No adult was in sight," she said.
Officials with the school board say they take bus safety seriously and are investigating the situation.
The consortium responsible for busing students from all three local school boards, the Student Transportation Services of Thunder Bay, transports about 14,000 students daily.
