Students at St. Francis elementary school are helping to put the brakes on car idling in school zones.

To celebrate Earth Day, the students launched a no-idling program at the school. New signs are installed in the parking lot and handmade posters are hung though out the halls to remind drivers about the dangerous emissions that come from a running vehicle.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit and EcoSuperior teamed up to help educate students about the health risks associated with carbon monoxide.

Thunder Bay's Active and Safe Routes to School Committee are providing a tool kit to encourage parents dropping off and picking up their kids to "Remember the rule, No idling at school."

St. Francis is now one of 10 Thunder Bay schools that have no-idling policies in place.
