THUNDER BAY – Local police services teamed up with Thunder Bay grocery stores Saturday in an effort to help fill the shelves of the Regional Food Distribution Association for the Holidays.

OPP provincial constable Diana Cole said the RFDA supplies food not only to Thunder Bay but to numerous communities around the Northwest region as well.

“We want to make sure that everyone in our community has food on the table for the holiday season and throughout the winter months too,” Cole said.

“It’s important because people sometimes can’t always afford food to put on the table and they have to care for their families.”

This year’s Stuff a Cruiser event is being held at four locations around the city, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. those who wish to donate non-perishable food items can drop them off with the officers at Superstore, Metro and Safeway locations on Arthur Street and the Memorial Avenue Wal-Mart.

“We are all a part of this community,” Cole said. “We feel it’s important to help our fellow community members in a time of need.”

Cole added that it’s important for the officers living in Thunder Bay to give back to their community and help support as many people as they can.

The officers are collecting non-perishable food items including canned fish, soup, peanut butter, pasta, baby food and money donations.

Cole said the main goal is to make sure everybody is happy and fed during the holiday season.

“The community of Thunder Bay and all of the people from the outlying communities who come and shop in town have been so generous in the last four years,” she said.

“They have been very supportive and we’ve done so well with this food drive thanks to the community.”

Cole said with the strong support of the community she expects to see a few full cruisers at the end of the day.
