What has been one of the most successful shipping seasons in recent memory for the Port of Thunder Bay is quickly drawing to a close.

Port officials say the Welland Canal Locks are set to close for the season on Dec. 30.

The Soo Locks will shut down on Jan. 15.

As a result, the final outbound shipment aboard a lake vessel will depart from Thunder Bay around Jan. 7.

Officials also say, among the final vessels of the season are six lakers that will lay up in the port over the winter for repairs at Keefer Terminal or Lakehead Marine.
