THUNDER BAY - The very popular Sundays in the Park Concert Series returns to Chippewa Park starting this Sunday (July 7). The series, which runs until September X features a different local group each Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Kicking off this year’s season will be Given the Chance a local three-piece band playing a mixture of folk, gospel, country and sing-along music featuring Felicity Lachance, a multi-talented 16 year old, Josiah Lachance, a 13 year old banjo prodigy and their mentor Jamie Gerow.
The free concerts are held on the lakeside of the historic Chippewa Park pavilion and are jointly sponsored by The Friends of Chippewa Park and the City of Thunder Bay Recreation and Culture Division. All ages are invited to attend, enjoy the concert and the park. Those attending are advised to bring their own chairs.
As an added Sunday bonus, the Rob McLeod’s Capital Players perform this year’s Melodrama – From Zero to Hero or The 10th Times the Charm – each Sunday in July starting at 4 p.m. – in the pavilion coffee house. There are also Thursday night performances starting at 7 p.m. Come early to get a good seat.
On Tuesday nights local musicians gather in the Pavilion for an old style Jam Session. It starts at 7 pm and runs until 10 every Tuesday throughout the summer. Admission is free and you never know what music you will hear, but you can be assured that you will enjoy it. All musicians are invited to join in and dancing has been known to break out.
