Summer weather expected into the weekend

THUNDER BAY - Nearly two weeks before the official start of summer, many Thunder Bay residents will be wearing shorts and sunglasses heading into the weekend.

Environment Canada meteorologist Geoff Coulson says we can thank a high-pressure system that will help bring a warm southwest wind from the U.S.

On the heels of a cool May, when Thunder Bay recorded an average temperature of only 7.5 C— a full two degrees below the long-term average — the agency predicts the daily high in the coming days will rise steadily until it reaches the upper 20s by Saturday.

The current forecast calls for the thermometer to top out that day at 27 C in bright sunshine.

Friday also looks to be pleasant for outdoor activities, with a clear sky and a predicted maximum of 24 C.

The long-term average high for this time of year is around 20 C.

It looks as if the Thunder Bay region won't enjoy a rain-free weekend, however, as there's a 60 per cent chance of showers on Sunday.
