Summits pay big

It appears eight Thunder Bay Police officers collected a hefty cheque following the G8 and G20 summits last June. According to documents acquired by CBC/Radio Canada, the eight officers averaged $6,611.20 apiece for eight days of work, or $826 a day.

It appears eight Thunder Bay Police officers collected a hefty cheque following the G8 and G20 summits last June.

According to documents acquired by CBC/Radio Canada, the eight officers averaged $6,611.20 apiece for eight days of work, or $826 a day.

All told, the officers, who worked a combined 370 hours of regular time and 594.5 hours of overtime, collected $52,889.

RCMP officials told the news outlet they had no choice but to hire outside officers to police the summit.

The national police force paid 657 officers from 17 local forces about $7 million for their services.
