The city will be looking into a leak after the most recent sunshine list was handed out early.
Media were given Thunder Bay’s portion of the 2011 provincial sunshine list Thursday, well before the March 31 release date, by city officials after it was learned some media had already received it.
Because the document was sent internally to council and administration through email, city manager Tim Commisso said the city’s IT department should be able to find out who sent the document externally quite easily.
“We’ll check what happened once it was sent out,” he said.
Although the list is ultimately made public, that’s up to the province to share along with the rest of Ontario’s public employees making over $100,000, mayor Keith Hobbs said. Because the city’s portion was only supposed to be shared internally until later in the month, he has concerns about who leaked it.
But as for the degree of concern, Hobbs said he would rather focus on what’s on the list rather than the list itself.
“I’m more concerned about the numbers on that list to tell you the truth,” he said.
As for discipline if or when the leak is caught, Commisso and Hobbs said it’s too early to tell what the consequences, if any, might be.
