THUNDER BAY — The Easter long weekend in the Thunder Bay area promises to be good for egg-hunting in the back yard, or just about any other outdoor activity.
Environment Canada's current extended forecast for the city shows temperatures climbing to between five and eight degrees above the historic average for this time of year, from Good Friday through Easter Monday.
"It's a bounce-back to warmer than normal temperatures," says meteorologist Peter Kimbell.
Starting Friday, the daily maximums are expected to reach double digits – ranging from 10 to 13 degrees –until Tuesday.
The normal high for this period is only five to six degrees.
Kimbell also released weather data for the month of March, which confirmed that it has been considerably milder than normal.
The mean temperature recorded at Thunder Bay Airport this month was - 2.2 C, or about three and half degrees warmer than the long-term average.
Total precipitation came to 25.9 millimetres of melted snow or rain, well below the normal 41.6 millimetres.
This included 15 centimetres of snow, much less than the historic average snowfall of 27 centimetres in March.
