THUNDER BAY – Supply teachers with the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board have returned to the bargaining table.

Aldo Grillo, president of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association’s occasional teachers unit, on Monday said his members have been without a deal since Aug. 31, 2014 and are demanding changes be made to bring their contract into line with other Catholic boards in the province.

Money is not a factor, Grillo added, noting the local deal is the second part of the supply teachers’ contract and until the local deal is signed the provincial deal – already negotiated – doesn’t apply.

“It’s hard to believe there are 72 school boards in Ontario and only two of those school boards have teacher contracts that haven’t been settled for 2014 to 2017,” Grillo said in a release. “Both are Catholic school boards. It’s disappointing to be one of the last to settle.”

About 350 supply teachers are affected by the ongoing negotiations in Thunder Bay.
