Supporters of the Northwestern Ontario Aviation Heritage Centre got a chance last night to see the progress in bringing the idea to life.
Organizers held their annual general meeting at the centre on Waterloo Street.
President Jim Milne announced that the Aviation Heritage Centre is now officially open. However, it won't be available for public tours until the fall.
Volunteers have been selling memberships and collecting artifacts from aviation veterans and their families.
Milne said their main focus is on collecting stories about the past, and creating virtual audio files which can live on in perpetuity.
Milne added that anyone who has local air service documents or artifacts from their parents or grandparents are encouraged to donate them to the Aviation Heritage Centre.
