THUNDER BAY -- A 19-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault after an elderly man was attacked on Rockwood Avenue last week.

The suspect was arrested by Thunder Bay Police Service community response team officers Thursday night on Phyllis Street, police said in a Friday morning media release. He was taken to the Balmoral Street police station and was charged.

Police earlier in the day had released a video of the persons of interest in their investigation after an 82-year-old man was assaulted on the 100 block of Rockwood Avenue on the morning of April 27. The victim had to be taken to hospital to receive medical attention.

The accused was also facing outstanding warrants for assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, threats, theft under $5,000 and charges relating to breaches.

He appeared in court on Friday morning and has been remanded into custody.
