THUNDER BAY -- A suspect in a Canada Day homicide investigation will return to court next month.

Carl Spencer Rae, 31, was one of two people charged with aggravated assault in the alleged assault and robbery of 52-year-old Christopher Adams on July 1.

Rae appeared in person Friday at the Thunder Bay Courthouse and was remanded until Sept. 26.

The alleged assault happened outside of city hall on the corner of Donald and May Streets.

The homicide investigation began when Adams died on July 8 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Rae's co-accused Becky Mamakwa, 21, is scheduled to appear in bail court via video on Aug. 26.

Both suspects are in custody.

Police have not yet said when or if the charges will be upgraded.

None of the allegations against Rae and Mamakwa have been proven in court.
