THUNDER BAY -- A 39-year-old man has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault after the victim of a weekend altercation suffered injuries that are deemed to be serious but not life threatening.
The incident, which involved a lone male victim and a group of four other men, happened just after 2:30 a.m. on Saturday outside a West Arthur Street bar, Thunder Bay police said in a Monday news release.
Police said the victim and group, who were not known to each other, had all been in the bar at the same time and became hostile, leading to a security guard and other people in the bar to intervene repeatedly in an attempt to ease tensions.
Once outside, one person from the group allegedly approached and started assaulting the victim. A second person then joined in and continued the assault before other customers helped stop it.
The accused turned himself in on Monday and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
