Police on Sunday arrested and charged a male linked to a serious Saturday afternoon assault.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were originally dispatched to the 200 block area of Bay Street just before 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15 following reports of a stabbing that had just occurred.

When police arrived an accused male had already fled the area.

An investigation revealed two males known to each other had become involved in an altercation. During this altercation one of the males assaulted the other with a weapon.

Paramedics with the Superior North EMS transported the male victim to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for medical treatment. The exact nature of the injuries was unknown but believed to be serious.

Further investigation led police to identify a suspect.

Police were dispatched to an area of Court Street South near Bay Street just after 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16, following reports the suspect involved in the Aug. 15 assault was in the area.

When police arrived they located the male accused, who attempted to provide investigators with a false name. The accused male’s identity was eventually confirmed and he was arrested without further incident.

The accused was also found to be in possession of property belonging to the victim.

Jonathan JOURDAIN, 31, of Thunder Bay, is charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Obstruct Peace Officer, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 and Breach of Probation.

He appeared in bail court on Monday, Aug. 17 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date of Friday, Aug. 21.
