Suspect who stabbed woman during parking lot robbery sought by police

THUNDER BAY – A woman was stabbed by a male assailant during an attempted robbery in the parking lot of a Memorial Avenue coffee shop. 

The 40-year-old woman was in her vehicle at 1 a.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of the Tim Hortons on the 300 block of Memorial Avenue when a man approached and opened the driver's door, attempting to take her purse. During the ensuing struggle she was stabbed, the Thunder Bay Police Service said in a Thursday news release.

The female passenger in her vehicle got out to confront the suspect and was able to take back the purse. The suspect fled south on Memorial Avenue.

The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance. No information was provided on her condition.

The suspect is described as an Indigenous man in his early 20s with a pale complexion, five-foot-eight with a skinny build and he was wearing dark pants and a light shirt with a black toque.
