THUNDER BAY – A Canada Day crash in the 200 block of Grenville Avenue has resulted in impaired charges being laid against a 60-year-old man.

Thunder Bay Police say they were called to an incident just before midnight on Friday, after being told a vehicle had left the road way and crashed into an unoccupied vehicle parked in a parking lot.

Upon arriving at the scene they encountered Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews dealing with a vehicle that was on fire, also learning the accused had been pulled out by a witness to the collision.

He was transported to hospital for treatment and later taken into custody by police and charged with impaired operation of a vehicle and dangerous driving.

The man, who was not identified by police, was released and is expected back in court on Aug. 23.
