Suspects remanded

THUNDER BAY -- The case against the six people accused of murder in connection with the death of a 44-year-old man continues to move through the courts with all suspects being remanded Friday.

THUNDER BAY -- The case against the six people accused of murder in connection with the death of a 44-year-old man continues to move through the courts with all suspects being remanded Friday.

Larissa Shingebis, 20; Felton Sakanee, 26; Kevin Wabason, 38; Christopher Meeseetawagesic, 25; James Chapais, 33; and Keith Mishenene, 21, were all charged with second-degree murder after police discovered the body of 44-year-old Lloyd Oskineegish in a wooded area near Field Street on July 18.

Shingebis, Sakanee, Wabason, Meeseetawageesic and Chapais appeared via video in bail court Friday afternoon at the Thunder Bay Courthouse. All five were remanded to Sept. 26.

City police said Oskineegish died following a violent incident and the investigation began after the victim’s burned remains were discovered.

Mishenene’s lawyer had his case remanded to Oct. 3 at the courthouse Friday morning.

The six suspects are in custody.

None of the allegations against any of the suspects have been proven in court.
