Fire fighters were busy battling a suspicious house fire on the city’s south side Sunday.
Around 22 fire fighters five pumpers and the aerial truck arrived after 3 p.m. Sunday to a house on the corner of Donald Street and Vickers Street.
“Upon arrival we did see heavy smoke coming from the roof and visible flames out one window on the east side of the building,” Platoon chief David Long said.
By around 4:30 p.m. the roof of the home was destroyed as the aerial truck and several hoses were fighting the fire.
“When it’s in the attic like that it gets stubborn it’s hard to get at,” Long said.
Fire officials expect that the home has been abandoned for some years. Hydro and gas told them the house hasn’t had service in a long time.
“Being abandoned we have to think it’s suspicious,” Long said.
Fire crews will be busy on scene into Sunday evening. After the fire is put out, an investigation can begin.
