A meeting between city engineering officials and CN Rail over problems with the railway’s aging Thunder Bay swing bridge took place Wednesday.
Concerns were brought to light last week when residents who use the 100-year-old crossing contacted the Thunder Bay Television newsroom. The concerned callers cited several issues that they say pose a danger to users and their vehicles.
They pointed to items like broken metal plates on the deck and hazardous bolts sticking up in several places.
Wednesday’s meeting was announced after city and CN officials were contacted by TBT News about the problems.
Following the meeting, CN officials re-iterated their position, stating that the bridge is safe for rail traffic.
They added that it is safe for motorists as well if speed, height and weight restrictions are observed.
They also say further talks will be taking place with the city as that they continue to review the situation.
